After Sunday’s demoralising derby defeat to their fierce Manchester rivals, City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been discussing who they think Roberto Mancini should bring in to ensure the title remains in the blue half of the city.
The Brazilian midfielder, who is set to play for his side in the Club World Cup this week, would cost the Premier League champions a fee thought to be around £12 million.
Mancini has been keeping a close watch on the progress of the 24-year-old and recently sent scouts to see him in Brazil as he looks to replace Yaya Toure who will be away at the African Cup of Nations for most of January and February.
A sticking point in any possible transfer would be securing a work permit as he has only earned eights caps for his country, mostly in friendly matches. However, since the dynamic midfielder played in Lithuania and Poland before returning home with Corinthians it should only prove a minor issue.
City are now six points behind their Manchester rivals and Mancini knows he needs to strengthen to keep pace with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side with Paulinho just one of several names linked to the Citizens.
