odemwingieThere are a number of punters shaking their head as the name Peter Odemwingie is mentioned again in the Football Transfer Tavern, and the shamed West Bromwich Albion striker could be set for a shock drop down to the Championship, with the loan window now open, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The West Midlands publication claims that Crystal Palace are lining up an ambitious swoop for the Nigerian international who on his day, is a real handful despite his recent extroverts surrounding the failed move to Queens Park Rangers on deadline day and refusing the Baggies permission to travel south to London for talks, which ended up fruitless.

The Eagles themselves brought in Kevin Phillips and Stephen Dobbie to Selhurst Park on deadline day but would be interested in acquiring another striker of the calibre of Odemwingie to fire them to promotion with Ian Holloway’s side currently sitting fifth and in the play-off spots in the Championship.

A sticking point could prove Odemwingie’s £39,000-a-week wages but it must be acknowledged that Palace recently received £15 million from the sale of Wilfried Zaha who will indeed join up with his new team mates at Manchester United in the summer.

Following the Odemwingie shenanigans, the striker has been frozen out by West Brom manager Steve Clarke and must be looking as lost right now as some of the punters trying to find the fruit machine after few too many beverages!

It is yet to be seen whether Odemwingie would relish a drop down a division to the Championship but with the player’s options running out, he may just relish some game time as opposed to twiddling his thumbs somewhere near Birmingham on a weekly basis.

Can Palace pull off a coup and sign Odemwingie on loan? Rate this rumour below.
