In a piece of good news for Everton fans here at the Football Transfer Tavern, Sky Sports report that Sylvain Distan has penned a new deal at the Goodison Park-based club.

Despite being 35-years-old, the centre half has been a pivotal part of David Moyes’ high flying side since joining the Toffees and both player and club were keen to get a new deal sorted out as soon as possible with his former deal set to expire at the end of the current season.

Distan arrived at the club in 2009 from Portsmouth and has been an ever present in the side, following Phil Jagielka and Seamus Coleman by committing his long-term future to the Merseysiders.

The deal will take the defender right through to the summer of 2014 and could well see the player finish his career with the Toffees under David Moyes.

As seems to be the way these days, the player confirmed the news on his Twitter account, tweeting: “Contract sorted…don’t have time to enjoy as I need to go back to hard work ha ha ha.” Whilst not quite as eloquent as Vincent Kompany, it is still a very good bit of news for David Moyes as his side battle it out to finish in the top four and secure a spot in the Champions League.

Everton fans. Are you pleased Distin has penned his new deal? Let us know your thoughts below.
