Europe’s Leading Hitman Has Got To Want This Class Of Premier League Move?

Leading European striker Charlie Austin is being with rewarded for his fantastic form thus far this season, with links to several top flight clubs.

The 23 year old Burnley hitman has hit an incredible 20 goals already in the Championship so far in the current campaign, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed, with clubs including the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Everton all reportedly linked with acquiring his services.  His empowering finishing ability would certainly benefit all teams linked with him, but can he make the step up to the next level should he join the Premier League?

He wouldn’t be the first player to prove himself in the lower leagues and be picked up by a top division side, with the most recent high profile name being Jermaine Beckford when he signed for Everton.  For those looking a bit further back, the name of Jonathan Stead ringing a nostalgic bell when he signed for Blackburn.  Neither made a noticeable impact in the top flight, with Stead only scoring a paltry eight goals in forty appearances for Rovers.

Is Austin the exception? With 20 goals to his name, he is currently outscoring the household names of Lionel Messi, Robin Van Persie, and Falcao, and with his current form could very well double that by the end of the season.

He is certainly not a technically gifted striker, but what good is here dribbling the ball around for 20 minutes when you can’t hit the broadside of a barn?  The fact he is lumbered in the Championship will ensure his value isn’t extremely overpriced, especially as an Englishman, giving further incentive for a top club to take a punt on him.  All in all, Austin may be just be a flash in the pan in the long run, but on his current form, any club in the Premier League that takes a chance with him may just catch lightning in a bottle.

Is Austin worth a punt for Premier League sides?
