It’s Everton’s turn to be linked with a Frenchman now, with a report from French newspaper Sud Ouest reaching us here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The report claims David Moyes is set to sign midfielder Etienne Capoue from Toulouse as a possible replacement for potential Chelsea target Marouane Fellaini.
The 24-year-old is expected to undergo a medical at Goodison Park in the next couple of days.
The report claims the Toffees have agreed a fee within the region of £10 million for the highly rated midfielder who has been capped four times for Les Bleus.
His coach at Toulouse, Alain Casanova recently described him as: “The best player in Toulouse last twenty years.”
Fellaini meanwhile has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and any move for Capoue would be funded by whatever transfer fee Everton would receive for the Belgian.
Capoue is the latest in a long string of French defensive midfielders who are impressing clubs around Europe with Moussa Sissoko and Yann M’Vila also impressing onlookers this winter.
