In sensational news here at the Football Transfer Tavern we are digesting the news that Everton are set to make a bid for Spanish international Alvaro Negredo according to BBC Sport.
The forward has been heavily linked with Spurs in recent weeks, but with Andre Villas-Boas ruling out a deal for a forward before the window closes tonight, Everton have emerged as shock contenders to sign the forward.
David Moyes’ men have of course just missed out on the signing of Leroy Fer due to medical issues and are looking to bring in at least one new face before the window closes. A forward would provide some much needed goals for the Goodison Park-based club as they look to push for the top four places in the Premier League and would be a massive coup for Moyes.
Due to the financial state in Spain, there is little activity transfer wise and given the situation of Sevilla in particular, it is thought that despite the asking price for Negredo being £13 million, he would be available for around £9m.
The 27-year-old has scored 55 times in 122 games for Sevilla and is known for netting on the big occasions. Everton are keen to show intent during the transfer window and have the cash to splash after the £8.6 million for Fer was not splased out in the end.
