Everton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern almost seem resigned to losing star man Marouane Fellani in the near future and reports today suggest that Wigan’s James McCarthy is being lined up a replacement for the Belgian.
Fellani has a buy out clause in his contract, thought to around £22 million, which has led to speculation that he is set to leave the club to a Champions League side during the January transfer window with both Chelsea and Manchester United showing interest.
David Moyes is understandably desperate to keep his top scorer at the club but should Fellani leave, according to the Daily Star, the highly rated Latics midfielder tops the shortlist for potential replacements.
The Republic of Ireland international has been touted as a potential Arsenal signing in recent days after developing into one of the most promising midfielders in the Premier League and at only 22-years-old he has a massive future ahead of him.
However Everton would be able to use the funds raised from Fellani’s transfer to rival the Gunners for his signature.
Moyes yesterday insisted that he is under no pressure to sell, despite the club recording a £9m loss last season.
He said:“There is no pressure to sell (Leighton) Baines or Fellaini, nothing like that.
‘Things can happen quickly, albeit my plans aren’t to sell anybody.”
