No one here at the Football Transfer Tavern could accuse Andre Villas-Boas of being anything less than a strong character and according to the Daily Mail his moves to block Jake Livermore’s loan to Everton are yet another example of this.
Some, including us here at the tavern would applaud AVB for being savvy enough not to boost a direct rival’s squad. Everton of course are vying with Spurs for fourth place and Champions League football qualification and by loaning out a competitive midfield player, Spurs would be handing their rivals a boost.
Livermore is viewed much in the same way as Danny Rose – one for the future, but someone who needs to leave on loan in order to gain a regular place in the side and ever vital first team experience.
The player need not worry however, as Everton are not the only club who are interested in his signature. The 23-year-old is being chased by West Bromwich Albion, Reading, QPR and Norwich this winter.
Both AVB and Livermore see a loan spell as vital to his career progression with Sandro and Moussa Dembele keeping the youngster out of action due to their excellent partnership and form in the middle of the park. Perhaps Spurs will loan to a team not deemed a Champions League qualification rival.
