FA Cup saviour going nowhere this January
There has been speculation regarding the future of Swansea City striker Danny Graham here in the Football Transfer Tavern, although John Cross of the Daily Mirror is convinced the striker will be going nowhere if Michael Laudrup has his way.
Norwich City and Reading are both keen to sign the striker who kept the Swans in the FA Cup with his late equaliser against Arsenal at the weekend earning the Welsh club a third round replay at the Emirates Stadium. Graham has spent the majority of the season playing second fiddle to excellent Spaniard Michu, although Laudrup is keen for face-to-face talks to convince Graham his future lies at the Liberty Stadium-based club.
Laudrup said: “We’ve not had official bids for Danny. He’s playing well right now so obviously he’s important for us because he’s scoring goals.
“But let’s see what he is saying. That I am talking to players doesn’t mean I tell them they can leave. That’s just the way I am. I speak to players.
“Michu was on the bench because he was not 100 per cent but I thought Danny, after two goals in two games, could keep his momentum up.
“Apart from his late goal he showed great spirit and heart. In the last couple of games we’ve seen the Danny we saw at the end of pre-season.”
Graham began his career at Middlesbrough but his stock really began to rise at Watford where he scored 38 goals in 91 league appearances for the Hornets before completing a £3.5 million switch to Swansea in June 2011. A fan favourite, Graham has continued his goalscoring form having struck 15 times in 51 league appearances in the top flight.
