Here at the Football Transfer Tavern it comes as no shock whatsoever to us that the Daily Star are claiming that Manchester United are trying to put together a package to lure a former hero back to the club.
The publication claim that Sir Alex Ferguson is desperate to get Cristiano Ronaldo back at Old Trafford and is willing to break the bank to do so. Ronaldo of course has been unhappy in the Spanish capital this season and has so far refused to sign a new contract, giving hope to his potential suitors.
A move to Paris Saint Germain has been strongly mooted for the player by The Sun yet the forward himself even admits that his heart truly lies in Manchester. United believe that a package of around £55 million would convince Real Madrid to sell the forward with the threat of losing him on a free should the 28-year-old play hard ball over a new deal looming over the club’s head.
Ronaldo of course has been simply sensational in an otherwise dire season for Real Madrid and the club are fully aware that losing one of their biggest names would not go down well with fans. Even if Gareth Bale or Radamel Falcao could be lured, losing Ronaldo may prove too much for the club to handle.
