There’s a few raised voices of excitement in the Football Transfer Tavern as Daily Mirror correspondent Rob Burnett has linked Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United with a swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil.
Despite the Red Devils flurry of attacking talent, the German international is reportedly considering his future at the Bernabeu following the summer arrival of Luka Modric and United are ready to pounce.
With both players so similar, it appears Jose Mourinho only has room for one regular starter in the side, and it looks as though 24-year-old Ozil could be the man to make way.
He has featured regularly for the Spanish Champions since joining from Werder Bremen in 2010, but rarely completes 90 minutes, and is no longer a regular first team starter since the arrival of Modric, although he insists he still ‘gets along great’ with the Croatian.
Ferguson is watching developments closely, and may test Mourinho’s resolve with a £20 million bid in January, as he looks to bolster his squad for the title run in.
