Some hot gossip has just hit the bar in the Football Transfer Tavern with Metro reporting that Sir Alex Ferguson wants to make a shock swoop for Chelsea pair Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole during the summer.
Both of the Blues players are out of contract in June with Lampard being told his contract will not be extended at the end of the season while Cole is yet to agree a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
This has opened up the possibility that they could be pulling on the red jersey of the Red Devils next season with Ferguson wanting to add experience to his relatively young squad. He would be willing to give them both 12 month deals with the option of another year based on performances.
Cole, 32, who is still regarded as one of the best left backs in world football, is unlikely to be out of offers during the summer with Paris Saint Germain thought to be lining up a lucrative deal for the England international.
It was only yesterday that Juventus star Andrea Pirlo told the Sun that he would love to see Lampard playing for the Serie A giants.
The 33-year-old talian international, said: “They would be mad to let him leave Chelsea — he’s still one of the best in the world.
“If he wants to play in Italy I would welcome him to Juventus with open arms.
“Lampard could have another four years at the top in Italy.”
Chelsea fans again voiced their feelings about the current Lampard situation during the Blues shock 2-0 defeat to Swansea City in the Capital One Cup semi-final on Wednesday night and the Chelsea legend is clearly still wanted by the disiullusioned Chelsea faithful.
