Stories concerning strikers moving from Ligue 1 to the Premier League seem to be a common theme in the Football Transfer Tavern of late, although sources at Sky Sports have revealed that a target for Liverpool, Newcastle United and Chelsea is expected to stay put.
“We had offers for Gomis, but he refused,” Lyon’s president told BeIn Sport.
The news will come as a blow to all three English clubs, but particularly Newcastle, who have already lost Demba Ba and been knocked back in their attempt to sign Loic Remy who opted to join QPR this January transfer window.
Gomis was also keen to reiterate his desire to stay put, telling Sky Sports:
“I want to finish the season here but the club also has their say, let’s wait and see. Until the window closes there will be speculation.”.
Gomis has spent his entire career in Ligue 1 and joined Lyon at Stade Gerland in 2009 after transferring from Saint-Etienne. The French international has since struck 45 league goals in 123 appearances for Les Gones.
