Given the fact they have a ‘return of the king’ situation going on at Stamford Bridge or more accurately return of the Special One, it shocks us here in the Football Transfer Tavern that the club have time to be linked with transfer targets at all – however Team Talk have a cracker for us today.
The club and their incoming manager have been linked with a move for highly rated 22-year-old defender Mangala who has been linked with Premier League transfers in the past and given how well he has done this season that comes as little surprise to us here at the bar.
The player himself is currently happy at Porto where he is a regular – a feat potentially not afforded to him at Chelsea where the club have John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz and Gary Cahill all fighting it out for those centre back berths.
He did however express how flattered he was to be linked with the club and claimed: “It’s flattering because Chelsea are a great club and Mourinho is a great coach.
“I intended to stay in Porto but you never know what will happen in football, especially when big clubs are involved.
“At Porto I play every week and I am involved in the title fight and the Champions League. And that is important to me.”
