Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we always enjoy a good press conference and as the transfer window approaches its end, Harry Redknapp has provided us with a cracker of a quote according to Sky Sports.
The Queens Park Rangers manager has compared the transfer window to ‘gang warfare’ in a speech that would rival that of Jose Mourinho’s eggs and omelettes speech and even Rafa Benitez’ shocking rant about Marco Materazzi.
QPR are as we all know, struggling to avoid the drop and have been looking to sign a couple of players in order to at least make a fight of it before the end of the season. Que Harry Redknapp claiming: “This transfer window, I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s like gang warfare out there.” He also tried to pass the buck after the humiliating defeat at the hands of MK Dons noting “When you’re in a position like we are, you need to strengthen if you can. I didn’t put this squad together, I inherited it.”
With Harry being Harry, the ex-Tottenham managaer ended on a positive, adding: “I still think we can avoid relegation if I can get the players in that I’m aiming for. We’ll give ourselves a real chance if we get them in. I’m sure there’ll be clubs looking to do some business but it’s always difficult.”
The Mirror recently linked QPR to Blackburn Rovers defensive duo Scott Dann and Martin Olsson while The Sun recently reported that Peter Odemwingie is still trying to secure an exit from West Bromwich Albion which was in fact rejected today. The Loftus Road-based club have brought in Tal Ben Haim and Loic Remy so far this window, while Jay Bothroyd and DJ Campbell have returned from loans in the Championship.
