Is £12M For Victor Moses Mad Money …I Mean, Really?

The back end of last season saw Victor Moses finally threaten to stop frustrating and start firing, so much so that Chelsea were tempted into taking a chance on the 21 year-old and made a cheeky £4 million bid last month according to The Mail. Tottenham are also reported to be interested but one huge stumbling block is Dave Whelan demanding a transfer fee three times Chelsea’s original offer.

Whelan’s valuation of £12 million for a player yet to prove his ability to offer consistency is somewhat comical, however his eagerness to pump up Moses’ price tag is likely to emanate from Crystal Place being owed 20 percent of any transfer fee.

The Mail suggest that Whelan is attempting to justify his valuation by comparing Moses to his former employee Charles N’Zogbia, who was sold to Aston Villa for £9.5 million. Moses does have youth and potential on his side in comprasion to N’Zogbia but he is yet to produce a string of performaces to rival those of N’Zogbia during the end of his time at the DW stadium. Most famously of all the Frenchman managed to inspire the Lactics to come from behind to beat Arsenal and help ensure survival.

In contrast Moses managed only 6 goals in the entirety of last season, and if Whelan wanted to ensure Wigan received the largest return possible for nurturing the Nigerian’s talent he should perhaps of done a better job when it came to negotiating the deal with Crystal Place that brought Moses to the North West.

Refresh this transfer rumour!

“Only 6 goals” for a team like Wigan is actually a good total. That is approx a 7th of their goals last season – and he isn’t a striker. Bale scored a sixth of Spurs goals last season – and he had a good scoring season. Moses played 36 out of 38 games last season – and is only 21. He is a full international, so he should get better. Wigan have to sell players to pay the bills (the true definition of a selling club) – so 12m may be high, but 9m sounds reasonable.

It pains when people are saying that a player who have impressed everyone have nt scored enough goals, what matters is, if the player is able to do what he had choosen to do, like creating chances, please every player must not score. chelsea lack wingers and is good idea to bring moses to fill the gap with harzerd

It will be closer to the £9 million mark is the latest news. As a wigan fan the £12 million is an over estimate he has yet to develop and really could do with another season.
But then if we get some money for a player who is no where near what he could be. Then I think Wigan should be happy, reinvest the money and move on to what will be our best season yet!

He will go to Chelsea if they step up to the 8 or 9 mill range. My opinion is that Whelan and company are just playing off of the 4 million bid with just as ludicrous an evaluation. Also, as far as 6 goals goes, Antonio Valencia never scored more than 3 a season at Wigan. And he was a full starter for three years there, and went for big money (rumored to be in the area of £15 million at the time). Anyway, If we sell Moses and put the money back in the market to where we aren’t afraid of bids in the 4-6 million range for awhile (as it seems we’re staring to do), I feel like we can contend a little more for consistent survival, rather than eek our way out of danger using luck, pure will, and who knows what else.

If you want to do a straight comparison based on last season’s performances, Moses looked a far better player than Jordan Henderson (who went for £20m based purely on potential).

So, perhaps £12m isn’t such a ridiculous price.
