Is Ambitious Walcott Really Considering A Move To Tottenham?

The Daily Mail has reported that Van Persie’s soon exit might spark a player exodus amongst the ranks at Arsenal.

After Van Persie admitted that he will not be signing a new contract at the club, with his current contract expiring at the end of next season, Arsenal have found themselves in a situation where both their starting XI attackers, Walcott and captain Robin Van Persie, have only one year remaining at the club.

With the skipper of Arsenal wanting to leave the club, the paper has suggested that Theo Walcott might follow him out of the door which will deliver a final blow to Arsenal fans.

Whilst the beginning of the season was poor for  the 23 year old, his season kickstarted in the final 3 months of the campaign which saw Arsenal finish in 3rd place. But with a lack of investment being put into the club, a 7 year run without any silverware and the frustration of always losing their best players, Walcott is waiting for alternatives.

Even though his family have suggested that he is happy at the club, other Premier League teams which are moving forward such as Chelsea and even North London rivals Spurs are said to be interested in signing the winger.

With his pace and crossing accuracy being at its peak in a 4-3-3 formation, Walcott’s most favourable position is the right side of the striker where he continues to deliver perfect passes, some which were seen nationwide as Walcott gave the England team a boost in the Euro’s as he made his impact after coming on as a subsitute against Sweden. Losing the game 2-1 at the time of being brought on, Walcott scored the equaliser, followed by assisting the winner which helped England top Group D, ahead of France.

But is Walcott to Spurs a viable option?

With Walcott being estimated to cost around £14million considering his current contract situation, could Spurs come in and steal him from their London rivals?

Theo has said that he wants a £40,000 a week rise from his current £60,000 per week contract in order to persuade him to stay and Tottenham might be able to get closer to that figure than the wage-strict Gunners. After splashing out on £70,000 a week contract for new addition Sigurdsson, it appears that Tottenham have adapted a new wage structure, emphasised by a six figure salary per week for star player Gareth Bale.

Walcott assisted 8 goals last season in the Premier League and scored 8 too in a total of 35 games. In comparison to Rafael Van Der Vaart, who had to play as right midfield in place of the injured Aaron Lennon at various points of the season, he scored 11 goals and assisted 7 in only 33 appearances.

So whilst there is no doubt that Walcott has the potential to be a very good signing for any team he plays for, with other options available at both Chelsea and Tottenham when it comes to the starting XI, it would be silly for Walcott to leave Arsenal in order to face the likely situation of keeping the bench warm as a substitute.

There is no logic to this. Theooo is inconsistent, and doesn’t appear interested in advancing his skill set. If he is fine with popping up here and there in a match then fine. He offers nothing going back, in the form of coverage for a full-back.

These attributes won’t change wherever he goes.

He should join Spurs, he and Gareth Bale being good friends from their Southampton days, would also fit in so well.

Obviously a completely false link. Why would Walcott come to us? Why does the author think that we can pay more than Arsenal in wages? We can’t and we don’t. Arsenal have players on 100k a week plus.
Theo’s only choice would be Chelsea or abroad.

It’s always a slapped for me when Walcott and RVP complaining that ArsenalFc lack ambition while they are reponsible for Arsenal’s failure. Do they make uses of their chance in some cases? I think, it’s high time wenger should look for their replacement instead of begging them! There was Arsenal before them and Arsenal can never be down as a result of their trade off.

I’ll never understand why someone earning £60,000 a week, would be happier if they were offered £100,00.

Greedy bugger. We at Spurs don’t need someone barely worth the £60,000 he’s on now at the arse.

The kid Lacks a Mental toughness. i mean he has got it all but is becoming a bit of a unfulfilled talent. Reckon a move to us would give him that headstrong determination, No doubt AVB would work wonders on him but not for £15m. maybe for £10m tho!

A 40% wage increase for what?? He’s won f-all for us, can’t dribble, can hardly pass, can’t defend, no vision, five years in the prem still looks a child out there.

Anyone offers a fiver for him, bite their hand off. This player is runner, that’s it. Can name a dozen wingers older and younger in the prem that regularly outshine this one. What? Oh, he’s made the England team for the euros? Wtf, who bloody cares.
