Manchester United fans look even more unimpressed here in the Football Transfer Tavern at the claim coming from the Daily Mail, after it was noted that the club failed with a £34 million bid for Sami Khedira on deadline day.
Given Real Madrid were trending on Twitter under the hashtag of ‘raid Real Madrid’ it is understandable that United felt that they could be in with a chance of landing the player.
Chelsea were also thought to be in for the defensive midfielder, yet Real Madrid were unwilling to allow him to leave, unlike his German team-mate Mesut Ozil who sensationally joined Arsenal.
Khedira noted: “The club turned down the offer and that was it.
“We didn’t really have the chance to discuss it. I had a longer chat with Carlo Ancelotti a few weeks ago and it was relatively clear to me that I’d stay at Real.
“We (players) don’t have any influence in the high transfer fees. Real refused the offer of Manchester United and I’m happy with that.”
Real Madrid are also currently trying to placate their unhappy stars who have spoken out about Mesut Ozil being sold – and now it seems that Cristiano Ronaldo is the least impressed with Ozil’s departure to Arsenal, claiming he is ‘angry’ at losing the German fan favourite.
David Moyes and Manchester United are of course reeling from the recent transfer window and could well have big money to spend come January – meaning that the likes of Khedira could be on the list of targets once again.
