El Confidencial have Manchester United fans on the edge of their seats here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that the club could well be in pole position to land Mesut Ozil.
The Real Madrid midfielder is widely regarded as being one of the best players in his position throughout Europe and has become increasingly worried and unsettled at Real Madrid in recent weeks.
After Florentino Perez sanctioned the arrivals of players such as Isco, Casemiro and Asier Illarramendi, Ozil became concerned over his place in the starting line up and it seems that Carlo Ancelotti has done nothing to abate this.
The German international is considering a move away from the club and this has left Manchester United in pole position. David Moyes has already seen the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara slip through his fingers this summer and is desperate to land a star signing.
Ozil knows full well that it is World Cup year and he needs to have a place in the starting line up week in, week out. Add to the players mentioned above the likes of Gareth Bale, Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira, and the competition at Los Blancos is stronger than ever – unlike at Old Trafford.
Not only is Ozil concerned over his place; he is also unhappy at the contract he is currently on and the money offered in comparison with other players.
Moyes has money to spend and should he eventually agree to the sale of Wayne Rooney, he would have even more cash available to him, and as one of our punters quips, he could do a lot worse than spend it on the midfielder.
