When the news Ashley Cole had signed a contract extension reached us in the Football Transfer Tavern, we wondered if there may be a possible U-turn by Chelsea which would enable Frank Lampard to do the same.  However, John Richardson of the Daily Express still believes Lamps is on his way out of Stamford Bridge, and is set to follow in the footsteps of David Beckham.

LA Galaxy are interested in making 34-year-old Lampard there next big star, after Chelsea confirmed they will not be renewing his £150,000-a-week contract.

Lampard still has plenty of options, with AC Milan and Manchester United also reportedly keen on Chelsea’s vice captain, although it is believed Lampard is tempted by the prospect of a new challenge and a new lifestyle in California.

Reports have emerged Lampard has gone as far as agreeing a deal in principle with Galaxy, who also attempted to lure Kaka from Real Madrid, only to see AC Milan step in with an offer the Brazilian found more attractive.

Galaxy want Lampard for the start of the MLS season in March, although Chelsea will be reluctant to let him go before then, whilst Lampard himself will want to end his career at Stamford Bridge as the club’s all time leading goalscorer – he is currently just 9 strikes away from doing so.

Will it be LA for Lampard? Vote in our polls below.
