In news that will have several Premier League clubs on high alert, the forward has clearly decided that his future lies elsewhere. Having been prolific this season and placed himself on the radar of not only the Premier League but also the rest of Europe, the player is keen to make the move and further his career away from Elland Road.
The club have released a statement claiming: “Luciano Becchio, who has been the subject of two separate bids from foreign clubs during the January transfer window, has handed in a transfer request to the club, as financially he believes his best interests are served by a move away from Leeds United.”
Whilst fans at the Yorkshire club may point the finger firmly at Becchio’s desire to earn more money, they will also know that the player’s contract expires in 2014 and Neil Warnock’s side can turn down bids should they see fit to do so.
Of course the club will look to capitalise on the form of the player and sell him to the highest bidder given the fact Becchio has reminded everyone there is seemingly no loyalty in football anymore.
