Leeds United are chasing out-of-favour Aston Villa left back Stephen Warnock on loan for the rest of the season.

The 31-year-old is also wanted by Wolverhampton Wanderers  according to Shrophsire Star and will have to choose between the Championship pair.

Warnock, who is out-of-contract at Villa Park in the summer, spent the first half of the season at Bolton Wanderers on a short-term deal after being banished from the first team by Paul Lambert and being forced to train with the youth team.

Bolton manager Dougie Freedman had hoped to sign the experienced defender on a permanent deal but the club were unwilling to meet his wage demands with the full back earning a reported £40,000- a-week at Villa.

Premier League outfits West Ham United and Fulham have also been linked with the defender but he is understood to be heading towards one of the Championship pair.

Warnock was once an England international, even making Fabio Capello’s 2010 World Cup squad, and cost Villa £6 million from Blackburn in January 2009 but after being frozen out by Lambert at Villa, he needs a fresh start that the Elland Road or Molineux outfits could offer.

Leeds lost Adam Drury to injury this week and Neil Warnock may replace him with his namesake.
