There is shock here in the Football Transfer Tavern as a story from the Daily Mirror reaches our ears. The publication claim that Liverpool could be set to lose one of their key players in the summer if Barcelona come calling.
Of course most of the talk when Liverpool come into conversation centres around Luis Suarez and his potential move away from the club. We have also had a fair few debates over the future of Pepe Reina but it is a different player entirely that has caught the eye of the Catalan giants.
Centre back Daniel Agger is set to attract another approach from the Camp Nou-based club who did come sniffing around last summer but backed off after the defender penned a new four-year deal at Anfield. Now however the club are determined to rebuild their back line and given that skipper Carles Puyol is 34 and suffering from a host of injuries, younger and fresher players are what the club need.
Agger of course has been a mainstay in the Liverpool side for the past few seasons and has become a vital player for the Reds. With Jamie Carragher hanging up his boots in the summer, the club will not want to lose someone else and destabilise the squad further but should Barcelona make an approach for the defender, they may have little choice given their standing in the modern game.
