Liverpool and Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were left on tenterhooks today after Lyon confirmed that star striker Bafetimbi Gomis will have his future sorted out during this January transfer window.
The 27-year-old striker has been repeatedly linked with a move to England in recent weeks and Chelsea are thought to be leading the race to land him but Liverpool are also keeping track of the impressive marksman.
With just 18 months left on his contract with the Ligue 1 club, they might be ready to sell him during the current transfer window despite his 13 goals helping them to challenge at the top of the French league.
Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulus told Sky Sports: “Bafe has talked about Chelsea in the past as they seem a very prestigious club to him, but there are also other propositions.
“Of course, all the talk is about him moving to England, but there are other European clubs interested in him too.
“I’m sure things will begin to accelerate in the next couple of weeks and we expect things to be sorted soon.”
Gomis has spent his entire career in France plying his trade at Saint-Etienne and enjoying a loan spell at Troyes before departing for the Stade Gerland in 2009. He has also earned 10 caps for the France senior international team and was part of the Les Bleus squad that competed at Euro 2008.
