Liverpool and Spurs to do battle over French hitman
As people pile into the Football Transfer Tavern for their post-work drinks, the conversation at the bar begins to turn to Tottenham Hotspur and their reported pursuit of Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who is surplus to requirements at Stade Gerland, according to the Daily Mail’s Neil Moxley.
Andre Villas Boas has been in the market for a striker he can put his trust in, and after the sending off of Emmanuel Adebayor in November’s North London derby defeat, he has put the feelers out on prospective striking targets and has particularly shown a keen interest in the 27-year-old Gomis with the player’s agents having met with both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool – another club in dire need of a centre forward.
Both AVB and Brendan Rodgers feel that the big and powerful Gomis could be exactly what they are looking for, and with Ligue 1 leaders Lyon looking to cash in on the striker to compensate for money lost in absence of Champions League football this term, it is a safe bet to assume Gomis will be the subject of a bidding war between the duo come January.
