Liverpool deny Sneijder interest

Wesley Sneijder’s future is still a hot topic of conversation in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Graeme Bailey of Sky Sports has dropped by to pour cold water on those rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool.

Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting Sneijder was holding out for a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool supposedly the club in pole position to make the signing.

But Sky sources understand Liverpool have ‘absolutely no interest’ in the playmaker, and Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has also moved quickly to deny the rumours.

“It is about who Brendan has got his designs on. What he wants, we will always say the same thing, if we find the right deals for the right players we will get it done.

“Everyone who operates in January knows it is always a difficult window, but we will do what we can. We have got targets in sight and if we can resolve those great, if not then we will move onto summer and do what we need to do,” he said.

“We have got the right team behind this, right amount of effort and right level of investment and it is about getting the right deal that fits. That is the most important thing, lots of teams including Liverpool have seen some deals done in haste, or at the wrong time and we are not going to let that happen and we are going to manage that efficiently and properly and get the best we can get.”

It has been one in and one out at Anfield so far after Daniel Sturridge arrived on Merseyside from Chelsea and Joe Cole departed back to London for a second spell with West Ham United. Sturridge himself particularly impressed after coming off the bench against Manchester United at Old Trafford yesterday and his performance would have warmed the hearts of the Reds faithful who would admit that the burden on Luis Suarez for goals has been simply too much this term.
