The Football Transfer Tavern is a hive of activity tonight ahead of a a busy weekend of action on and off the field.
The Express now indicate that Liverpool may face a battle to land Ukrainian star Andriy Yarmolenko after reportedly tabling an offer of around £20 million for the midfielder.
According to Italian reports, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has offered €23 million (£19.7 million) for Dynamo Kiev’s Yarmolenko who his national coach Oleg Blohkin has called “unstoppable”.
However Serie A club AC Milan also have a long-term interest in the player and now hope to persuade him on a similar route to compatriot Andriy Shevchenko who memorably featured for the Rossoneri after joining from Dynamo Kiev back in 1999.
After sealing their qualification for the group stages of the Champions League, the Italian club could now match the Reds offer after seeing a £17m bid rejected recently.
The 23-year-old’s representative Mikhail Gulordava stated: “Milan made a €20 million (£17 million) bid for Yarmolenko, but the only way to tempt Kiev’s president is to make an offer that he can’t refuse.
“My client obviously wants to play for a club like Milan. He would like to follow in the footsteps of Shevchenko.
“However, Premier League clubs are also interested.”
And the legend Shevchenko himself has given the young winger a high appraisal.
He said: “Yarmolenko is a great player – talented and quick.
“Even though he doesn’t play in my position, up front, he still manages to score plenty of goals.
“If he works hard he could get to the highest level.”
