Liverpool face tough competition to land Russian-based ace

Lacina+Traore+Liverpool+FC+v+FC+Anzhi+Makhachkala+UKU7Gf4nRuklLiverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are turning their attention away from the big screen and over to the pool table after hearing a snippet from the Daily Express.

The publication seems to think that the Reds could well face some stiff competition in their January pursuit of Lacina Traore.

The Ivorian forward has been a target of Brendan Rodgers for some time now and was all set for an approach from the Reds back in January.

Given current club Anzhi Makhachkala are willing to sell – for the right price of course – it seemed that a deal would be fairly simple.

Liverpool have begun the season in a manner that few would have expected after the club weathered a turbulent summer that saw many fans ordering our top shelf tequila.

After managing to keep Luis Suarez at the club after much doubt while bringing in some fresh faces to boot, Rodgers had a pretty successful few months. Add to that the fact they sit unbeaten at the top of the Premier League table and you have a very happy red half of Merseyside.

Once we tell the loyal Reds fans that Turkish giants Galatasaray are also keen on Traore, this all changes.

Not only are the Istanbul giants considering a bid, but Juventus are also big fans of the forward. Given the player netted 12 goals in 24 games for the Russian side last season, it is not a shock that such attention is being placed on him.

Rodgers is thought to have a long standing interest in the player, and will go toe to toe with any other suitors.

Will Liverpool eventually get their hands on Traore or do they have enough talent up top already? Let us know your thoughts below.

I can’t see his style would fit the Liverpool system at the moment. Liverpool really need a goal scoring number 10 type of player or a mid-fielder who scores ( Frank Lampard type) I feel we could also really do with a strong ball winning presence in the middle of the park with pace, like Diame of West Ham for game such as Stoke away.

Crouchski-not excited by this potential signing, luckily it’s probably made up BS like 99% of journalists reports on LFC sites-agree 100% with above; Stevie G replacement vital now that he plays a deeper role and competition for Lucas is needed! These additions would give us an excellent deep squad capable of challenging for top 4! Did you see Willian 2nite..dodged an expensive bullet there; see why he only has 2 Brazil caps

I didnt see liverpool need this guy.Liverpool should sign a ball winning midfielder like Diame,
and push Gerald further up.Dont forget Gerald is England best midfieder (if not in the world).
Gerald still has a lot to offer,he can create and score gol.But Henderson should learn to score
more gol, take every chances not to it.
