Liverpool plan to hijack Sneijder deal

Wesley Sneijder’s name keeps cropping up here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Steve Bates of the Daily Mirror has a sneaking suspicion that Liverpool may be about to tempt him to the Premier League.

A move to Turkish giants Galatasaray was thought to be all done and dusted for Sneijder, but it appears Liverpool are the English club best placed to hijack the move.

Brendan Rodgers is confident Liverpool can lure the Dutch star to Anfield, despite Galatasaray already agreeing an £8.2 million deal for the player with current employers Inter Milan.

Sneijder is thought to be holding out for a move to the Premier League, but his wages remain an obstacle. The Dutchman is on £160,000-a-week at the San Siro, and is unlikely to be offered anything close to that from a Premier League club.

But with the fee being a quarter of what it was quoted just over a year ago, Rodgers believes more money can be used on wages to give the club a chance of signing a genuine world class player.

Liverpool’s managing director Ian Ayre has been in contact with the clubs Boston-based owners over the last 24 hours to see if a deal is possible.

Liverpool fans, can you see Sneijder joining this January? Vote in our polls below.

A player of Sneijder quality is what Liverpool need to push for the top. We mustn’t allow wage issue to prove a stumbling block here. FSG take note
