Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are having a few casual beers before tomorrow’s away trip to Aston Villa when Ben Jefferson from The Express arrives in the bar to bring news of Liverpool’s latest transfer target.
Jeffreson tells punters that the Reds are potentially looking at bringing 16-year-old Serbian starlet Richairo Zivkovic in who currently plays for Groningen in the Eredivisie.
The winger has been a regular goalscorer and has been compared to Dutch ace Arjen Robben after making his debut for Groningen last December, becoming the youngster ever player in the league in the process.
And now reports in Serbia indicate that the highly coveted player could be bound for Anfield in the near future.
According to Serbian newspaper Blic, the Reds are the main contenders to land the youngster after sending scouts to watch the forward during his recent matches.
Speaking to the paper, Groningen president Hans Nijland said: “All the big clubs in the Netherlands are interested in him but Liverpool scouts are particularly active. They are constantly watching us and are very keen.”
Despite being eligible to play for Holland, Zivkovic has now decided to represent his mother’s home country of Serbia after watching their Under-19 team take out the European Championship during the summer.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is known to be eager to build a youthful talented squad at Anfield and the Serbian wonderkid would certainly fit the bill for the former Swansea City manager.
