The Sunday People suggesting that Liverpool are set to launch a £6.5 million bid for Sunderland shot stopper Simon Mignolet.

Brendan Rodgers is seeking a new keeper to replace Pepe Reina who appears unsettled on Merseyside and he has now lined up a move for the Black Cats star.

Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic was also on his hitlist but it appears that the Belgian international has emerged as the favoured signing.

The 24-year-old has impressed between the sticks for the Premier League strugglers and given Rodgers’ eagerness to complete deals early in the transfer window it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if this transfer was completed in the next few weeks.

Current first choice Pepe Reina has long been linked with a move back to Spain with Barcelona but given the news that Victor Valdes will remain at the Camp Nou until the end of next season, will the Liverpool player really move their without assurances of being the starting keeper?
