News is coming out of the Football Transfer Tavern this evening that Liverpool are in negotiations to bring Daniel Sturridge and Thomas Ince to Anfield.
Mirror Football reports that Liverpool are set to spend £18 million to secure the two players that Brendan Rodgers hopes can lead the club to European qualification.
The duo’s arrival could spell the end of Joe Cole’s time at Liverpool despite his desire to fight for his place at Anfield. The 31-year-old made an impressive cameo off the bench scoring during Sunday’s 3-1 victory over West Ham but is appears that his future at the club is bleak with the expected arrivals of two players in his same position.
Cole, who still has two years left on his contract with the Reds, has been linked with a move to QPR under old Hammers boss Harry Redknapp but he is adamant his future remains at Anfield.
“All I’m doing is giving my all in training every day, and trying to keep my place in the squad when we play Villa – that’s all I can do,” he explained.
Liverpool had a disappointing summer transfer window, losing out on several potential targets, and are looking to make amends in the new year with Sturridge and Ince the first of several arrivals expected.
They will fork out £12 million to land Sturridge from Chelsea and Rodgers wants to bring Ince back to the club barely 18 months since he was sold under previous management. The Blackpool winger has been in superb form for the Tangerines this season and Rodgers is convinced of the 20-year-old’s talent plus the club have their own 35 per-cent sell-out clause which will mean the club can sign him for a bargain £4 million.
