Liverpool to complete unlikely transfer

pearce.jpgThe Football Transfer Tavern punters are extremely surprised to hear that Liverpool are planning to sign Reading defender Alex Pearce this summer according to Metro.

Reading’s relegation was confirmed on Sunday with a dull draw at home with fellow Championship-bound club Queens Park Rangers and so the summer exodus will begin for both hooped shirted outfits.

Pearce is out of contract this summer and has told new Royals boss Nigel Adkins that he plans to leave this summer on a free transfer with Liverpool already in talks with the Republic of Ireland international centre back who has actually recently lost his first team place to Sean Morrison at the Madejski Stadium – hence the surprise at the Liverpool link.

The 24-year-old worked with Brendan Rodgers when the former Swansea City boss was at Reading and the pair reportedly have a deal already done in principle.

Rodgers is desperate to replace Jamie Carragher who will hang up his boots at the end of the season after an impressive final year at Anfield that has seen him break into the first team once again displacing Martin Skrtel in the process.

Will Liverpool swoop for Pearce. Would you be underwhelmed if he was Carragher’s actual replacement Liverpool fans? Let us know your thoughts below.

He has been dropped because he refused to sign a new contract months ago! Liverpool were linked with him months ago!

He will cost nothing, and be on low, performance related wages. Its a no brainer. If we get £5-7 million for Coates, then we have a replacement for nothing, and Coates money to use for more important buys.

P.S. j75j is correct with his comment also.

I thought we’re going after world class centre backs?…now I realized, nobody wants to come to Liverpool.

LFC are going backwards with a signing like this. Rather get Lescott on the cheap.

Why are fans so quick to judge and critise? this player is 24 still learning was readings player of the year last season and is a full international. He wont go straight into the team he will be a squad player that enables us to use money elsewhere I mean come on stop being so negative and look at the bigger picture. Carragher is retiring skrtel will be sold along with coates. That means we need replacemants at CB albeit we have Kelly and Wisdom we still need at least 2 CB’s this summer for squad purposes and this will be one of them and cost us nothing to acquire. Excellent work again in the market under Rodgers!

Worrying times for Liverpool fans all over the world if he pursues Alex Pearce and Ashley Williams.

Why buy a defender, why not a mid or even a striker that can temporarily replace Suarez?

I agree with JK,you have too give the fellow time.Rodgers buys last summer where Catastophic, not one of them made an impact ;-( It seems like every player needs time at anfield, where as at old Trafford they hit the ground running ( But I guess that’s because there buying world class players & where buying Chelsea reserves or Swansea & anyone who has played under Rodgers ;-( I still don’t think Rodgers will last past summer 2014
