One club that has impressed us no end this season in the Football Transfer Tavern is Atletico Madrid and Sky Sports report that they are set to keep Liverpool target Arda Turan at least until the summer.
The Vicente Calderon-based club have been flying high this season on the back of winning the Europa League last term and are sitting nine off the top of La Liga in second place. Whilst most talk regarding January transfers has surrounded that of Radamel Falcao and Adrian Lopez, Turkish international Turan has been a Liverpool target for considerable number of seasons.
Atleti boss Diego Simeone however is not willing to let the player go for any price during this transfer window. He claimed: “The important thing is what he shows on the field. Arda is one of the best players. He shows heart in every one of our matches. He has a contract with our club and he shows everyone what he has to offer.”
In the summer the club may well face a battle to hold onto key members of their squad, but the 25-year-old midfielder is going nowhere for now. With regards to getting anyone in at the Vicente Calderon this January, Simeone stated: “I have not talked to [director of football] Jose Luis [Caminero] and the people of the club. During the coming days we’ll get together and see if it is necessary or not.”
