It has only been a couple of days here in the Football Transfer Tavern and we are still reeling from the news that Victor Valdes has declared his intent to leave Barcelona. Add to this the latest report from Mundo Deportivo and you have a cracker of a story.

It is widely believed that Valdes will leave the Catalan giants at the end of the season to avoid leaving on a free in the summer of 2014. Barcelona are confident they can get a decent price for the keeper who is still regarded as one of the finest stoppers in world football. Cue a need for a new number one and with multiple names flying around including Pepe Reina, the choice is endless.

Reina of course is well known to us in the Premier League after plying his trade at Liverpool, yet his father Miguel has come out with a corker of an interview. Reina senior told The Network he was: “Absolutely convinced that Pepe would love to return to his Barcelona.” He elaborated further by adding: “Pepe has sufficiently demonstrated the likes of goalkeeper he is and, today, I think would be worthy of the circumstances, indeed, would be the ideal goalkeeper FC Barcelona without doubt.”

Do you think Reina should return to where it all began? Vote in our polls below.

How about a straight swap, Reina for Valdes?? Pepe has been good for LFC but has struggled for form over the last 18 months. Perhaps his head has been in Barca.
