Another passionate and exciting Champions League week has concluded, with some surprising results, but for those craving more continental action, switch your remote to Channel 5 as the Europa League takes over. Several English teams continue to chase the opportunity of qualifying from their group, here are our predictions for the English games.
In what has been a very tightly contested group so far, with only three points separating top from bottom, Liverpool make the long arduous journey to Russia to take on Anzi. Despite this, Liverpool have once again left the majority of their stars behind, giving their youngsters and fringe players another chance to impress. A tight game indeed, but Anzi will sneak this.
Final Score: Anzi 1 – 0 Liverpool
Newcastle could go through with a victory over Brugge tonight, provided Bordeaux don’t lose to Maritimo. With two wins and a draw so far in their group, Newcastle have been impressive since their return to European action, and with the likes of Tiote set to play, expect them to once again secure three points.
Final Score: Club Brugge 0 – 2 Newcastle
The only English side to play at home this week in the Europa League, Spurs will be out for blood after their shocking performance against Wigan last weekend, and certainly need a win here against the Slovenian champions after having yet to pick up three points in their group. Adebayor and Lloris will start at White Hart Lane, and despite their rather erratic form, Spurs should pick up the win here.
Final Score: Tottenham 3 – 1 Maribor.
