One of the Football Transfer Tavern’s favourite sagas of the summer so far appears to be edging closer to its conclusion as Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo is set to join Manchester City, as reported by Manchester Evening News.
Sevilla boss Unai Emery has confirmed that the club are now resigned to losing their main man after interest from City stepped up a notch this week.
The Andalucian club have already set their sights on alternatives for the 27-year-old who notched 25 goals in La Liga last season.
Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini also confirmed that the club were nearing another signing and it appears this one is very nearly a done deal with City set to splash out almost £25 million for the Spanish international.
“The most likely situation is that he will leave,” Emery a press conference.
“It’s possible the club can’t reach an agreement for him, but we are prepared, we have spent some time working on alternatives.
“Of course we’re not going to find a player with the same characteristics as him or one who is going to have the same record, but we will find players who will be important to the future of this club, and I trust the work the club is doing in that area.”
