The Daily Mail have claimed that Manchester City have been given the green light to move for Atletico Madrid defender Martin Demichelis this summer.
The Citizens have been in the hunt for a centre back for some time now and have seen moves for Real Madrid’s Pepe and Demichelis himself previously rejected.
Now however, Atletico Madrid are willing to allow the defender to leave for the Premier League, providing City cough up a reported £4 million.
After Demichelis made it clear he wanted to join Manuel Pellegrini at City, Diego Simeone had little choice but to allow him to leave and the La Liga club have brought in his replacement in the form of Ajax’s Toby Alderweireld.
After their shock defeat against Cardiff City, it became clear that playing Javi Garcia at centre half through their injury crisis was not the answer for the Citizens, and now Pellegrini has acted.
The loss at Cardiff is not as bad as it could have been, with Chelsea and Manchester United taking a point apiece when they faced each other last Monday, but Pellegrini knows that no more points can be dropped against sides that they really should be beating, and quite comprehensively at that.
Given their summer arrivals to date, the club now boast an impressive array of talent in every area, with the back four currently under siege due to injury, yet now with Demichelis potentially set to arrive, fans should be able to breathe easy once again.
