Manchester City to finally seal deal for long-term target?

As we draw to a close for the day in the Football Transfer Tavern, one last story from talkSPORT has drawn our attention away from the dart board and to the defending Champions Manchester City.

It is claimed that City are finally about to land Italian international Daniele De Rossi who has finally decided to make the move from Roma after growing fed up with the club he spent his entire senior career at and amassed nearly 400 appearances for.

Relations between the club and player have hit an all time low with coach Zdenek Zeman criticising the player’s start to the season and claiming: “Personally, nobody has asked me for De Rossi. Some people say there are 10-11 clubs interested and I have a few doubts on that.”

Roberto Mancini has long been an admirer of the playmaker and as our landlord maintains, this is not the first time the club have ‘nearly done the deal’ for the 29-year-old. But with City stalling this season and having to contend with losing Yaya Toure to the African Cup of Nations yet again, some cover in the middle of the park is exactly what Mancini needs. De Rossi is seen as a player of high calibre, too good to miss out on with both Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell failing to live up to expectations following their summer arrivals at the Etihad Stadium.

Do you want to see De Rossi in the Premier League? Would he help City to retain the title? Vote in our polls below.
