We are used to Manchester City being linked to players left right and center yet missing out on them is not what we expect. Sky Sports report that summer target Matias Rodriguez has decided to move to Serie A and not the Etihad Stadium.
Of course Roberto Mancini is always on the look out for players and lets face it, money is no object for the side and City will surely be disappointed that the Argentinean midfielder has snubbed them in favour of a move to Sampdoria.
The player was impressive last season for Universidad de Chile and after the performances he put in during his time in South America, Europe started to take notice. Rodriguez claimed: “On Thursday I was told about the interest of Sampdoria and it’s an opportunity that comes only once in your life. I immediately had a meeting with the officials and the coach Dario Franci and they said to me that I had to take advantage of this chance.”
He is now in Italy for a medical and to finalise the deal that will see him become a player in one of Europe’s elite leagues for the first time and is fully aware that Sampdoria could be used as a stepping stone to an even bigger club. The Italian side can of course virtually guarantee him first team football whereas given the talent and strength in depth at the Etihad, it may have proven one step too far for the player at this time in his career.
