Defender set for Milan exit?
With the news that AC Milan are nearing a deal for Mario Balotelli, punters here at the Football Transfer Tavern are hearing from Goal.com that a departure of a Rossoneri defender is on the cards in order to raise some much needed cash.
Philippe Mexes has found himself on the list of sacrificial lambs at the San Siro as the club look to bring in new faces and younger blood. Of course, as we have been told multiple times throughout the transfer window, there is little to no money available in Serie A and selling has to come before buying.
Given the price City are asking for Mario Balotelli, Milan are trying to find ways to raise cash for the former Inter Milan striker. The club have decided that Mexes can leave after his form dramatically dipped in recent weeks. Mexes’ departure would not only provide cash in terms of a sale but also free up £3.8 million in wages – something that would again help the purchase of Balotelli.
Mexes will not find himself short of suitors should AC place him on the market and could send out a video of his overhead goal in the Champions League earlier this season alone to find the Frenchman a new employer! The Italian giants have also considered the sale of Ignazio Abate acording to Football Italia with the full back interesting Russians Zenit St Petersburg – again to help fund a move for Mario.
