Manchester United and Manchester City won’t only face up in terms of the Premier League title race this term with the duo also set to battle it out for Stoke City keeper Asmir Begovic, we are hearing in the Football Transfer Tavern.

Roberto Mancini wants to sign the Bosnian international as back up to England’s first choice Joe Hart at the Etihad Stadium to help keep the former Shrewsbury Town keeper fresh in terms of competition.

With Sir Alex Ferguson also keen on the 25-year-old shot stopper, The Sun reports that this could see a transfer battle to land the impressive keeper.

Ferguson is ready to replace David De Gea – who could return to Spain with Barcelona according to the Daily Star, and the Stoke man has been outlined as his main transfer target for the summer.

Begovic, who Tony Pulis signed from Portsmouth in 2010, has been in fine form for the Potters this term and after craving a reputation as one of the best keepers in the league, he could be set for a big money move to one of the Premier League big guns in the near future.

Is Begovic good enough for Manchester’s big two? Rate this rumour below.
