Charles Perrin from the Express fetched exciting news and brought it to the Football Transfer Tavern today claiming that Manchester United were ready to move for Benfica winger Ola John in the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old only signed for the Portuguese side from FC Twente in the summer but according to Perrin’s sources, the Old Trafford club are tracking the winger with a view to possible transfer.
Sir Alex Ferguson has sent scouts to watch the Netherlands Under-21 international and he could be lining him up as a replacement for contract rebel Nani who looks set to leave Old Trafford in the near future.
John has actually struggled since arriving at Benfica, scoring only once in first eight games but Ferguson has obviously seen some potential there and other top European clubs are also interested in signing him.
Manchester United moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League after victory against City on Sunday but Ferguson still feels the need to reinforce his squad in order to reclaim the title off their city rivals.
