There’s a few surprised looks around the snooker table at the Football Transfer Tavern as punters gather round an article from the Sunday People claiming that Manchester United are considering an astonishing swoop for Liverpool contract rebel Raheem Sterling from their fierce rivals in the January transfer window.

People Sport revealed that Ferguson is tracking Sterling’s development and views him as a long-term replacement for unsettled Portuguese winger Nani who is set to the leave the club in the near future.

Sterling, who made his England debut in the recent friendly defeat against Sweden, has so far stalled on contract talks at Anfield alerting a host of Premier League clubs to his availability but Ferguson is keen to move swiftly to seal a deal for the 17-year-old.

The in-demand article states that Sterling would be attracted to Old Trafford by the outstanding record Ferguson has with young stars and he would also increase the number of home grown English players at the club – a requirement of the newly enforced UEFA Financial Fair Play rules.

However, Liverpool would be reluctant to sell their most impressive young talent to their fierce rivals.

Perhaps it might be another rumour to take with a pinch of salt and have another pack of pork scratchings instead? Vote in our polls below.
