There’s a few whispers in the Football Transfer Tavern that David Moyes want to make Everton youngster Ross Barkley his first signing at Old Trafford as he seeks to undertake a youth-based transfer policy at his new club, according to Caught Offside.
Moyes hoped that the 19-year-old will be persuaded to join his former manager at United and he is willing to pay £12 million to secure the highly coveted England Under-21 attacking midfielder.
Barkley spent time on-loan in the Championship with Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday this season but returned to the Everton first team for the end of the campaign, and put in impressive displays against Tottenham and Arsenal.
The teenager is contracted to the Toffees until 2016 but could the subject of interest from Manchester United as Everton prepare to lose another of their homegrown talents after the depature of Jack Rodwell to Manchester City last summer.
Chairman Bill Kenwright is desperate to keep top talents Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines away from unsuspecting eyes this summer but try to balance the books by letting Barkley join United instead of having to sell his best players.
