Manchester United fans are looking up with interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern as our landlord runs over to the pool table with the latest claim from Metro.
The publication think that Manchester United striker Robin van Persie could well be looking to extend his contract with the Red Devils.
Since his move from Arsenal, van Persie has become the star man at Old Trafford.
He has even ousted Wayne Rooney from the starting line up given scenarios where United have chose to only start with one centre forward.
Now RVP has spoken out and claimed that he is so happy at United, he would be willing to extend his current deal.
The Dutchman noted that: “I have three more years to go and I would like to stay longer.
“I know, and I see people around me, making decisions where I think these guys will look back and say “was that a good one?”. I don’t want that.
“I want to play as long as possible at the highest level.”
This of course means that the 30-year-old is basically pledging his long-term future to the Red Devils and is essentially stating that he wishes to end his career at the club – something that has United fans here in the tavern considering ordering some of our finest bottles of fizz to celebrate.
Given only a few weeks ago we were being told that RVP did not enjoy life under new manager David Moyes, this news comes as a little bit of a shock.
As one of our punter quips however, not everything that is claimed in the media is to be believed and discontent at life under Moyes seems to be the prime example here.
