With all the talk of players arriving at Old Trafford, the conversation has switched to one that could be on his way out in the Football Transfer Tavern, with sources at The Independent revealing Federico Macheda’s Manchester United career is drawing to a close.
The young Italian is something of a cult hero at Old Trafford, having burst on to the scene in 2009. United fans will forever remember his spectacular last minute winner against Aston Villa that played a crucial part in them winning the title ahead of rivals Liverpool that season.
But since then Macheda has struggled to make the grade at Old Trafford, and having been sent out on loan twice to Sampdoria and QPR, it appears a permanent move to German club Stuttgart is about to come to fruition, according to the clubs director of sport Fredi Bobic.
“We have been watching him for a while now,” Bobic told the Stuttgart Nachrichten newspaper.
“He is one of the players we have on our shortlist.”
The 21-year-old will leave Old Trafford with four first team goals to his name, although two proved crucial winners in the 2008/09 title run in – something Manchester United fans will be forever grateful for.
