French outfit line up show stopping bid for Manchester United ace

There is dramatic news here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it has been claimed via The Daily Star that Wayne Rooney could be on his way to Monaco.

The publication stated that even though Sir Alex Ferguson has publically come out and reiterated that Rooney will be at Old Trafford next year, publications are still reporting that he could yet depart Manchester. The Daily Star even claim that several senior players believe Rooney is on the way out and have already basically come to terms with this.

We of course take claims like this with a pinch of salt but when they are backed up with the news that the mega wealthy Ligue 2 side Monaco are willing to literally blow all other interested clubs out the water to land the forward, we start to wonder.

Fergie may claim that he left the striker out of the club’s biggest game this season for that well used excuse of ‘footballing reasons’ but the more cynical of us in the tavern feel differently. Not only would the fee for Rooney be huge but Monaco are also willing to offer astronomical wages and considering the player is already on £250,000-a-week, that is quite the statement. The words tax free would be music to Rooney’s ears or more accurately his agent given we doubt Rooney understands what that means!

Should United receive a huge fee we think they would at least consider it and as the fans will tell you – if it helped bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, they would probably bite your hand off.
