Nani’s Sulking Could See Him Replaced By Intriguing £25M Whizkid
Fergie set to finally give up on Nani by acquiring yet another winger from the Portuguese league.
Manchester United are lining up Porto wide man James Rodriguez as a potential replacement for contract rebel Nani.
Nani, who’s currently preparing for his countries Euro quarter final encounter with the Czech Republic, has been waiting on a new deal and according to The Mirror has already publicly stated that he may quit Old Trafford this summer. Inter Milan are watching developments closely, and recent events have spurred United into action.
Rodriguez, aged only 20, is rated at around £25million by Porto and, much like most young foreign talents, is supposedly keen to play for the Premier League runners up. Luckily for him it seems the club want a deal to happen just as much, even sending scouts out to South America to watch him play for Columbia.
Rodriguez has already appeared for the champions of Portugal 41 times in his two years at the club, and at such a young age would represent a huge investment for Fergie. Whilst the general consensus this summer is that fans want United to send a statement to their rivals by the announcement of a marquee signing, the arrival of such a promising talent could prove a more tactful approach.
Current wing man Nani meanwhile fears he’s been given the cold shoulder at Old Trafford. Fergie’s not known for hiding his contempt for players working in contingent with their agents in order to win an improved deal, and it seems that’s exactly what the player is doing at this moment.
Nani is said to be unhappy about the fact he’s had no contact from anyone at United during Euro 2012 despite impressing at the tournament, which of course is a crying shame in itself. Add that to the clubs unwillingness to pay him more money for turning in yet another half decent season in which he went missing for large spells, and you can see why these aggrievances have surfaced.
With the player apparently feeling isolated from affairs at Old Trafford, and the arrival of Shinji Kagawa adding to likes of Valencia and Ashley Young on the flanks, it seems a parting of ways could be the only solution after 5 years at the club. At 25 Nani is nearing his peak, but he still frustrates hugely at times with the unappealing combination of a large ego and erratic form.
Rodriguez on the other hand could turn out to be a much more intriguing option.
