Daily Express reckoning Manchester City are set to make up for their lack of business in January with a marquee summer signing.

Roberto Mancini is reportedly poised to make a £40 million bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez in the summer, who he views as the clubs long term successor to Mario Balotelli.

Balotelli completed his £19 million move to AC Milan this week, and despite speculation City failed to replace him with a big name striker on deadline day.

Suarez meanwhile, has come out this week and pledged to stay at Liverpool for the foreseeable future, even if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.

Mancini is keen to test the Uruguayan’s statement, and make a bid for the man who has already notched 22 goals in all competitions this season.

Liverpool and Suarez visit the Etihad Stadium tomorrow and Mancini said ahead of the game: “Suarez is a top player. I like him because he has quality, he is strong and he works. He is one of the best in England. But he plays for Liverpool.”

Balotelli meanwhile offered a parting shot after he was unveiled as a Milan player, despite describing the Premier League as ‘the best in the world.’

The Italian said: “Good things … my team-mates and manager. And the bad things? Everything else. The press, first. The weather. The food. The way you drive. That’s it.”
